“Do you allow Llamas”, was the question from the caller seeking an overnight stay at Texarkana KOA.
Yes was the answer from Jerry Bergman, General Manager of Texarkana KOA after a few questions about Llama behavior.
Turns out in case you didn’t know they are wonderful animals. Owners, Greg & Maylene Hall have been involved with the animals for over 20 years. Hailing from Dobson, NC , both Greg and Maylene are 4H Leaders and Llama Trainers. They were traveling from Lincoln NE, site of the Grand National Llama show where Pongo (spotted coat) was Grand Champion in showmanship and Smiley (brown coat) was a 5th place finisher in cart driving.

Daughter Janessa, does all the handling of the Llamas during the competition.
Pongo and Smiley were very popular as all the kids in the park wanted to see them and also have a cart ride!
As RV’ers the Llamas saw 12 states in 14 days. This visit demonstrates that whenever you think you have seen it all, a novel rv experience proves otherwise.

The Moto Mundo Electric World Tour car stopped at Texarkana KOA to recharge their car. Drivers Hajalte Tin and Nina Rasmussen called the campground with an unusual request; “We need to recharge our battery, can we use one of your RV sites.” Turns out they are driving around the world to promote their electric car.

Beginning in Denmark, they drove east across much of Russia, Mongolia, and China, boarded a ship and sailed across the Pacific Ocean to San Francisco, and east bound across the U.S. Their next most important stop is at a car show in Detroit, MI. After that its off to New York City, across the Atlantic Ocean to a port in Spain, and then back to Denmark.
The Nissan Qashqai EV200 is converted to an electric vehicle. It has a range of 120 miles and top speed of 90 mph. Hajalte says in order to maximize distance they usually drive at about 60 mph.

They used a KOA directory to locate many campgrounds on the way. Utilizing a 30 amp or 50 amp plug speeds their recharge time to about 4 hours. While waiting for their recharge to complete, they browsed the RV Art Gallery at Texarkana KOA. Perhaps we will eventually see electric motor powered RV’s!

We found this really cute inflatable at a local Lowes. The inflatable was sold out at the store; we were lucky enough to find it at another one and had it transferred. When I picked it up last week the sales clerk told us that every Lowes from Dallas to Texarkana (15 stores) had sold out of them too! Apparantly a few other rv enthusiasts have graced their christmas celebration with one of them on the lawn too!
Texarkana KOA will open on Christmas Day at 12:00 noon and be open until 7:00 pm. Santa will be greeting rv’ers all day and night from his Jolly RV!

These canned ham style slippers complete a trifecta of choices of zany RV theme house slippers. These are reminiscent of the classic travel trailers of the 50’s and early 60’s.

In addition to these, you can find slippers reminiscent of the silver trailers like Airstream and Avion, and a Teardrop design.

The manufacturer is working on a Fifth Wheel slipper design. Stay tuned for a future post!
